FDI Young Dentists Forum - Panel Discussion

Dr Cheung received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, USA. He maintains a multi-specialty practice in the Central business district of Hong Kong.

He is Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, the Academy of Dentistry International, the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, the International Academy for Dental Facial Esthetics, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

He is Honorary Professor, West China School of Stomatology, Sichuan University in China, Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Dentistry, and Adjunct Associate Professor, University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, USA.

Dr Cheung has delivered well over 100 lectures worldwide and has published in various dental journals and magazines. He serves on the International Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Dental Association (JADA). He is Vice Chair of the Education Committee of the FDI World Dental Federation and Speaker, International College of Dentists International Council.

Prof. Dr. Markus B. Blatz is Chairman of the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences and Assistant Dean for Digital Innovation and Professional Development at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, where he also founded the Penn Dental Medicine CAD/CAM Ceramic Center. A member of several professional societies, he is co-founder and past President of the International Academy for Adhesive Dentistry and a founding member of the European Academy of Digital Dentistry. He is Editor-in-Chief of Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry, Associate Editor of the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry and of Quintessence International, and serves on editorial boards of numerous other dental journals. Dr. Blatz is recipient of multiple teaching and research awards, and voted “Most Educational Instagram Account” (@profmarkusblatz).

Dr Duygu Ilhan is a member of FDI Health and Safety Task Team and a trained periodontist at PhD level. She is currently a full-time academician at Istanbul Medipol University. Former chair of FDI Membership Liaison and Support Committee. She is an established speaker, as well as an author, co-author in many journals. Her lectures are mainly focused on periodontal regeneration, evidence-based dentistry, ergonomics, health communication and peri-implant diseases.

Dr Stephen Liew graduated from the Australian Institute of Company Directors with the Order of Merit and is a recipient of the Australian Outstanding Young Dentist Award. Currently serving as the ADA Federal President, he has also chaired or served on many committees at federal and state level for over a decade, including the Australian Digital Health Agency’s Secure Messaging Steering Group and the FDI World Dental Congress 2021-3 National Organising Committee. He worked rurally in public health, volunteered in Australia and overseas, and is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, Academy of Dentistry International and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

Originating from Cairo, Egypt, I earned my bachelor's degree in Dental Medicine & Surgery from Ain Shams University with a coveted spot on the honor roll in May 2009. I undertook a year-long internship at Ain Shams University's educational hospitals in October 2010 where I practiced Fixed and Removable Prosthesis, Restorative Dentistry, Oral Surgery, Endodontics, and Paediatric Dentistry.
While pursuing my university studies, I started dental assisting at various clinics. Post-graduation, I embarked on a career as a general dentist, serving across diverse clinics from 2010 to 2015. In April 2011, I became a part of the Police Academy Dental Hospital, extending oral health and dental care to police officers and their families. As an integral member of the dental team, which
included specialists, dentists, and dental nurses, I practiced different areas of dentistry, but primarily focused on Paediatric Dentistry. Alongside my professional responsibilities, I volunteered my time to tutor young future dentists subjects such as Oral Medicine, Dental Materials, and Oral Pathology.In 2013, I successfully tackled the American National Board Exam part 1, after which I crossed paths with my future husband who lived in Australia. Amid my transition to a new country and the desire to cultivate a family, I embarked on a deliberate career pivot within the dental sector. This phase of my Australian journey commenced with a tenure at dental practices in Rozelle and Alexandria, spanning from August 2015 to January 2016, which allowed me to gain local insights and experiences. In February 2016, I joined Henry Schein as a Special Markets Customer Care Officer overseeing accounts for governmental and corporate entities. In July 2018, I transitioned to the position of Special Markets Business Support Officer. An exciting turning point came in August 2021, as I moved to the Marketing department as a Brand manager. With over 15 years of dentistry experience & demonstrating exceptional outcomes, I earned a promotion in June 2023, becoming a Category Manager responsible for Pain Control and Preventive categories. Adding to my professional credentials, I recently completed the Marketing Week Mini MBA in Marketing in July 2023. Beyond my professional achievements, I am a mother to two young girls aged 6 and 3. Balancing the challenges of a full-time profession and motherhood, I derive joy from pursuits such as cooking, reading, cycling, walking, writing, swimming, and making new friends. I engage in volunteering at my local church, underscoring my dedication to giving back to the community.
