Prof. Piet E. Haers holds medical and dental degrees from the University of Leuven, Belgium, with OMF surgery training in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. He was Clinical Director of the South-Thames Cleft Lip and Palate Service at Evelina London Children’s Hospital and Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey.
From 1999 to 2011, he served as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is now Emeritus Editor. He was President of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (2013-2015) and is Executive Director of the International Academy of Oral and Facial Rehabilitation.
Prof. Haers is Chair of the Cleft and Craniofacial Section of the Strasbourg Osteosynthesis Research Group and an elected member of the German Academy of Science. He joined the Dental Implant and Maxillofacial Centre in Hong Kong in 2023 and was appointed Honorary Clinical Professor at the University of Hong Kong in 2024.
