With the new technological developments in prothodontic materials, ceramics seem to provide a variety of advantages compared to conventional materials. In this lecture the indications, advantages and disadvantages of new ceramic materials will be discussed. In addition, the techniques will be explored.
In the last decade, new ceramics have invaded our dental community, offering a wide variety of properties and characteristics. The lecture will help the audience to classify, understand, and manipulate those materials and to select between the many options available today on the market. Subjects like fabrication, strength and optical properties will be discussed thoroughly. Different methodologies like the monolithic and the bi-layered technics will be compared and addressed through a number of clinical cases. At the end of the lecture, specific clinical recommendations will guide the dentist into a more evidence based and reliable approach when working in his office.
