Dr. Nokukhanya Makwakwa
Dr Nokukhanya ‘Khanyi’ Makwakwa a Specialist in Community Dentistry, Member of the World Dental Federation (FDI) Public Health Committee, Vice Chairperson of the FDI Women in Dentistry Worldwide Board, Chair of the Dental Committee of the Medical and Dental Board (MDB) of the Health Professions Council of Southern Africa (HPCSA) has experience spanning over 20 years. In her tenure serving on the MDB of the HPCSA she was elected as the Vice Chair of the Board and Vice Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Board.
Dr Khanyi is currently a lecturer at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University in the Department of Community Dentistry where she lecturers both undergraduate and postgraduate students. She also served as the South African Dental Associations National Liaisons Officer for the FDI where she managed the implementation as FDI projects such as the World Oral Health Day. Her work experience spans over 20 years, and includes working in the public, private and mining sectors. Working in these diverse sectors gave her insight into the challenges faced by dentists daily whilst attempting to deliver quality Oral Healthcare to their patients. Her passion and drive to be part of the solution to these challenges faced by dentists prompted her to be active in all spheres of the professions, as she firmly believes in the principles that ‘we need to be the change that we see’.
